Polk County cases are heard in Livingston, about an hour north of my Conroe office. Rural counties move differently than Harris — fewer courts, fewer prosecutors, and far less room to be anonymous in the process.
Two things drive most of the criminal docket here. US-59 / I-69 runs the length of the county and is a heavily patrolled corridor, which means a steady volume of traffic stops that turn into vehicle searches and possession charges. And Lake Livingston brings weekend enforcement — DWI, boating while intoxicated, and public intoxication cases that spike in the warm months.
In a county this size, the same handful of prosecutors handle nearly everything, and reputation and preparation carry real weight. That works against an unprepared out-of-town lawyer and in favor of one who shows up ready. My office in Conroe is close enough to appear here regularly, and far enough outside the county that I answer to no one locally.

Polk County criminal cases are handled at the courthouse in Livingston, the county seat. It is roughly an hour north of Conroe on US-59, and I appear there for clients regularly.
It depends on why they searched. Consent, plain view, and probable cause each have specific legal requirements, and highway interdiction stops are frequently challengeable — particularly when the stop was extended to wait for a drug dog. See my article on car searches in Texas.
Yes. Lake Livingston generates a steady stream of intoxication cases, on the water and on the road. Remember that a DWI arrest starts a 15-day clock to request an ALR hearing or lose your license automatically.
It can be an advantage. I know the local process well enough to be effective here, but I have no relationships to protect and no reason to soften a defense to stay comfortable in a small courthouse. You get someone whose only obligation is to you.
